College Entry Essay Sample

         

    Having goals in life could encourage people to want to do more with their future. Goals could be graduating high school or college, buying a car or something as simple as buying a new pair of shoes. Even though goals may change over time, it’s still important to have them. When I was young, I dreamed of being a veterinarian. After time and tough experiences, I then wanted to become a detective or a social worker. I feel as though I am more passionate about making people's lives better than actually helping animals. It’s difficult for me to make a decision on a career because when I start a family I want to be there for them and not be so tied up in my busy work. I also have a main focus on what I want to achieve which is helping victims and children who can’t help themselves and who also need someone when there is no one else. Those two careers would enable me to achieve my main focus. College would help me reach those goals as well as better my current way of living.

    My dream careers are not fit for everyone but I feel as though I am a perfect fit for those jobs. If I choose to become a detective, I would want to specialize in sex crimes because to me it’s a major problem that is sometimes overlooked in U.S. cities. If I choose to become a social worker, I would specialize in teen victims of sexual and physical abuse in the police department. I would like to protect people as well as children and attempt to better their difficult situations. In order to accomplish my long term goals, I wish to volunteer at a Victim’s Advocate Center to gain experience and to build my resume in the fall. Personal experiences encouraged me to obtain these careers and be a part of fixing a community. These two careers are ideal for me because they fit me as a person and I see myself in both fields.

    At the age of 17, I don’t have many skills but I have some experience in various fields. I have a good ethic in both school and work. In my entire school career, I’ve received honors in all of my classes and high respect from my teachers. I’ve participated in extracurricular activities such as cross country and I’ve completed many races and marathons. Last year, I got hired for my first job at (example). There I received janitorial skills as well as customer service techniques. I work well with people and I love to put a smile on their faces. I've also volunteered at various agencies such as the (example) and (example). This upcoming year I wish to increase my employment and volunteer history.

    I have always wondered how good it would feel to be remembered for the positive things I've done for people. Doing positive things throughout your life would not only get people to notice you but would make a positive change and a difference in the world and to the community. A person's beliefs and values could represent who they are as a human being. I believe that everyone has a voice that needs to be heard and no one should be ignored or looked down upon. For example, there are some cases where an officer or social worker may not listen to a victim's story because they don't agree on it personally. Instead of disagreeing with the victim, they should listen to them and make them feel as though they are human with rights. Disagreeing with the victim or making them feel like what happened to them was their fault could be damaging in the long run. I want to make everyone feel loved and cared for as well as safe.

    Attending college would be very beneficial to me. I could better my situation at home, start a career that I'm passionate about and build a family. I feel as though being a detective or a social worker would be my ideal careers. I have the right personality, and I'm determined to help others. No one should be alone and everyone has a voice, even children.
